Featuring  * GARMENTS FOR EACH OTHER - an educational documentary on Islam’s

response  to  domestic violence in Muslim Families.

 

November 5th, 10:30am-12:30pm, An Noor Mosque:

Guest speakers to address legal, religious and cultural issues when working with Muslim victims of Domestic Violence.

Guest Speakers:

  1. Imam Magid is the Imam of All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) Center in Sterling, Virginia and has co-authored several books.  He has held workshops for Imams and religious leaders, domestically and internationally, on the issue of violence against women.  Former president of Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).

  2. Salma Elkadi Abugideiri is a licensed professional counselor and founding board member of the Peaceful Families Project, an organization dedicated to educating Muslim community leaders and members about domestic violence.

  3. Aisha Rahman, Esq. is executive director of KARAMAH and also serves as the head of the organization’s Family Law Division. Rahman came to KARAMAH from Legal Aid of East Tennessee, where she was a staff attorney litigating cases on domestic violence.

  4. Lisa R. Strand, Esq. is the joint chief attorney of the Civil Legal Services Unit at the Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo, Inc.  She has worked as an attorney with Legal Aid for nineteen years  and supervises family justice needs, provision of services to New Americans through the Coordinated Refugee/Asylee Legal Services Project, and oversees the Unit’s participation with the Erie County Supreme Court Help Desk.
